Like Now even then some of the Great did not make it and some of the so-so made it to the top Durante was one of them. That is why this site is so exiting discovering some of the great TALENTS that never really stayed in the public eye. there will always be a Durante,s but he was not the best or greatest.

It wasn't just Durante and another guy. The recording was by Jimmy Durante, Eddie Jackson, and Lou Clayton. Durante, from around 1918 until the early 1920s was a solid ragtime and jazz piano player but gravitated towards vauleville as the 1920s wore on and became part of a comedy music team called "Clayton, Jackson and Durante" which became very popular on Broadway, leading to Durante getting a role in a radio series called "Jumbo", which ultimately made him a star.

This Durante recording is wonderful--classic vaudeville. I just wonder who the other guy is.

Interesting to hear old Durante, but this record IS a bit of a snooze. It's more of a routine with Durante and an unknown partner doing a comedy routine and also singing a bit of song. Durante is not really shining here actually, so don't be fooled by the description.
